Devin Wentzell is a veteran hockey official with over 35 years of refereeing experience, recognized for consistency, calm game management, and a strong understanding of the game. Over a long and dedicated career in hockey officiating, Devin has worked across multiple levels of competition and is known for clear communication, sound judgment, and a professional approach with players, coaches, and fellow officials.
Devin is the founder of the Elite Zebras Referee Association, established in 2020. While formed prior to the COVID‑19 pandemic, Elite Zebras began to gain traction during the post‑COVID return to play, as leagues and tournaments placed increased emphasis on dependable, professional officiating. The association focuses on accountability and consistency, while supporting officials through mentorship, assigning support, and practical evaluations.
Throughout his career, Devin has officiated at a wide range of competitive events, including the Arctic Winter Games (three appearances), the CARHA World Cup, and numerous championship‑level games. His experience spans decades of rule changes and evolving styles of hockey, allowing him to adapt while maintaining a steady focus on fairness, safety, and respect for the game.
Respected for a composed and balanced presence on the ice, Devin continues to contribute both through officiating and by supporting the development of referees within the hockey community, guided by experience, professionalism, and a commitment to doing the job the right way.
